Current Developments

Since it's foundation in 1999, the role of the NCII Professional body has been to assist in the development of professional counselling and counselling services across Ireland. To this end the NCII Professional Body promotes and insists on high levels of professional academic education, professional training and experience. The organisation has grown considerably in the last couple of years as has it's membership and influence.

In order for the Professional Body to continue it's growth and to assist in helping prospective members identify the benefits of membership of the organisation the NCII will create a completely new and separate  presence for the professional body to help in providing it with it's own identity and a range of new resources for it's members.

NCII Certificate Courses

The NCII in association with The Irish Family Planning Association are presenting two new courses in may designed for practitioners, counsellors and others who may be interested in working in the area of Crisis Pregnancy Counselling or training to deliver the IFPA Speakeasy sex education programme which helps parents learn how to talk to their children about sexMore

 

Deputy Pat Carey, Minister of State with responsibility for the National Drugs Strategy, officially opened the new headquarters, and campus, of the National Counselling Institute of Ireland, in Limerick on Friday 28th March 2008.

The ceremony also marked the official launch of the institutes new Professional Counselling Degree programme which offers a range of qualifications at ordinary and honours degree level (HETAC).

Because of his involvement with the National Drugs Strategy, the minister expressed particular interest in the B.A. Degree in Counselling Skills and Addiction Studies, citing the growing need to provide counsellors in this area who have been professionally trained to a recognised level (HETAC) within the National Framework of Qualifications......more

Choosing a Counselling Course

There are many courses that one can choose from that claim to create professional counsellors upon their completion. Many claim that their courses lead to membership of one type of professional body or other or are accredited by a professional association. It is vital for you to ask relevant questions before committing your time and finances to a programme.
